Hi Portia,

J’s conference is next week. They do first quarter conferences instead of report cards. He said he took a test called the CARS. It seems to be some sort of comprehension test. He said he is pretty sure he got every one right. And, he went back over his answers! GO KALEI!

Through high school, my grades had followed a predictable pattern; I would start off great, then my grades would vacillate greatly as the school year progressed. During the summer before my senior year in high school, I was given a dual diagnosis of Gifted with ADD/Inattentive and was prescribed medication to overcome my struggles.

In my first semester of college, I was on increased medication and had the help of an ADD counselor to get me through my classes which yielded good grades. In the spring, I believed I no longer needed my ADD counselor; after all, “All I needed was to refer to my calendar, right?” In addition to being wrong, the mounting side-effects of my medication led to a debilitating second semester. With the exception of my ‘A’ in English, my academic performance was poor.

I enrolled into the brain training program at Kalei Learning & Brain Training in West Chester, PA. At the completion of the program, my focus, memory and decision-making improved and I am no longer on medication. My improvements are incredible. I can study for longer periods of time and recall what I read with comprehension. My grades this semester were excellent!

“Mike has done better than ever in math these last two marking periods. For the 4th quarter, he received a 98% in Algebra II. He also got an A on his final exam in Algebra II. He always ‘got’ math. However, on tests he would make careless mistakes when completing a problem. He doesn’t make these mistakes now.

Mike says he can focus much longer during his tennis matches. In the past, he would start to feel bored in the middle of a match. Now, he says he doesn’t feel this way anymore.

Mike says he remembers to do more things that he is supposed to do.

His overall ability to focus is better. I have noticed him sitting and studying for long periods. I have never seen him study in the past.

Mike feels that the Kalei Brain Training helped him and that he wants us to continue doing the exercises at home over the summer.”
